The fundamental advantage of the "RAVEN Progressive Matrices", is that it is a test that can be given to individuals of different sociocultural background without significant errors occurring in the comparative results (i.e. errors that can be attributed to the influence of cultural factors to the development of intelligence). In this respect, it seems that the RAVEN scale is superior indeed compared to most Ι.Q. tests. Besides this test can be administered to illiterate or speech and hearing impaired individuals, since oral instructions are kept to a minimum. On the other hand, Raven-type tests do not test intelligence in an all-round fashion, but rather test selectively for specific kinds of intelligence. These include the testee's analytic ability, together with visual sense and sense of symmetry, as well as the individuals ability to find relations between shapes and symbols.
